The Dating Swamp (Isssue 1)
In a place where six degrees of separation is wildly optimistic (it's usually one - two if you're lucky), you’ll meet somebody cute, exchange numbers...
The conversation is flowing.
The chemistry is there.
Then the question
"So, do you know...?"
Deep sigh.
Of course you do.
Before your first date,
your date may already know:
Where you work., who your siblings are. Whether you play football, own aboat or whether or not your last relationship ended well. Whether you're "actually nice."
It's both terrifying
and strangely efficient.
There are some advantages though. Ghosting is harder. Treating people badly tends to catch up with you.
Good people develop good reputations.
Reliability matters.
Word gets around.
So does disrespect.
In a funny way, a small island encourages accountability.
At least eventually.
Ironically, the people who seem to have the best relationships didn't obsessing over finding one.
They were busy enjoying their lives.
So - travel. Meet people.
Expand your circle.
Say yes to invitations.
Go to that random lime.
Talk to strangers, introduce your friends to other friends.
& don't worry. Somebody's auntie probably knows somebody. This is Cayman, after all.
Love might not be around the corner.
But it's almost certainly one mutual friend away!
